Display technologies have undergone rapid development, with liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays becoming two of the most widely used technologies in modern electronic devices. This review presents a comparative analysis of LCD and OLED technologies from the perspectives of display mechanism, device structure, optical performance, and power efficiency. Particular attention is given to their differences in ambient-light visibility, contrast performance, dark-scene display quality, and energy consumption under different operating conditions. Additional comparisons are made in terms of response speed, viewing characteristics, device lifetime, and operational stability, which further influence their suitability for different display applications. The comparison highlights the distinct advantages and limitations of the two technologies and clarifies the relationship between their operating principles and practical display performance. Their relative performance is also discussed in relation to different usage scenarios, including mobile devices, televisions, and other consumer electronic displays. Overall, this review provides a concise basis for understanding the technological characteristics and application suitability of LCD and OLED display systems.
